The California Public Records Act (Government Code Section 6250 et. seq.) requires the City to respond to a request for public records within 10 timetable days of the request. The City Clerk’s Department will handle all requests and determine whether the request, in whole or in part, seeks copies of disclosable records and will promptly notify the requestor of its determination and the reasons thereof. In unusual circumstances, it may be necessary to request a 14-day extension to provide a determination. In addition, in some circumstances, the City may determine that your request should be denied based on a determination that the record stuff sought is “exempt” from public disclosure. These exemptions include, but are not limited to: records pertaining to pending and on-going litigation to which the City is a party; attorney-client work product; and petitions for initiatives, referendums, and recall. The information provided includes zoning designation and description, density limits, height limits, and setback requirements among others.
